The Impact of Infrastructure on Mexican Manufacturing Growth

This paper analyses the impact of infrastructure on the growth rate of the Mexican manufacturing sector. For such purpose, two measures of infrastructure are used: highways and electricity. Further, we also estimate the degree of returns to scale and the markup. We pooled two digit industries to obtain the estimates of the whole manufacturing sector. For the entire manufacturing sector, our results do not show evidence of increasing returns but the existence of market power cannot be rejected. We find that both types of public infrastructure have a significant effect on manufacturing growth and its inclusion reduces the estimated values of returns to scale and market power. Once we use sectoral data, we obtain mixed results: public infrastructure affects significantly only some sectors.

Rainbow meanders and Cartesian billiards

nuloIn this paper we relate several objects from quite diverse areas of mathematics. Closed meanders are the configurations which arise when one or several disjoint closed Jordan curves in the plane intersect the horizontal axis transversely. The question of their connectivity also arises when evaluating traces in Temperley-Lieb algebras. The variant of open meanders is closely related to the detailed dynamics of Sturm global attractors, i.e. the global attractors of parabolic PDEs in one space dimension; see the groundbreaking work of Fusco and Rocha [FuRo91]. Cartesian billiards have their corners located on the integer Cartesian grid with corner angles of ±90 degrees. Billiard paths are at angles of ±45 degrees with the boundaries and reflect at half-integer coordinates. We indicate and explore some close connections between these seemingly quite different objects

Migration of a cloud-based microservice platform to a container solution

Este trabajo presenta las labores realizadas durante 6 meses de prácticas en Gandi SAS, en el proyecto Caliopen. Caliopen es un proyecto open-source de mensajería orientado a respetar la privacidad de sus usuarios. El objetivo del trabajo es la administración y mejora de la plataforma de mensajería del proyecto, haciéndola evolucionar a una solución estable y escalable. La memoria describe el estudio y la implantación de una solución basada en Kubernetes para la nueva plataforma, desplegada en la plataforma de IaaS de Gandi. En el proceso también se describen las diferentes herramientas y utilidades desarrolladas, así como la solución implementada para monitorizar el sistema

Smoothness of Topological Equivalence on the Half Line for Nonautonomous Systems

We study the differentiability properties of the topological equivalence between a uniformly asymptotically stable linear nonautonomous system and a perturbed system with suitable nonlinearities. For this purpose, we construct a uniformly continuous homeomorphism inspired in the Palmer's one restricted to the positive half line, providing sufficient conditions ensuring its $C^{r}$--smoothness. Additionally, we study the preservation of the uniform stability properties by this homeomorphism

Modelo de aprovechamiento sustentable de residuos sólidos orgánicos en Cundinamarca, Colombia

Introduction: This article considers a proposal of a model of use of organic solids waste for the department of Cundinamarca, which responds to the need for a tool to support decision-making for the planning and management of organic solids waste. Objective: To perform an approximation of a conceptual technical and mathematician optimization model to support decision-making in order to minimize environmental impacts. Materials and methods: A descriptive study was applied due to the fact that some fundamental characteristics of the studied homogeneous phenomenon are presented and it is also considered to be quasi experimental. The calculation of the model for plants of the department is based on three axes (environmental, economic and social), that are present in the general equation of optimization. Results: A model of harnessing organic solids waste in the techniques of biological treatment of composting aerobic and worm cultivation is obtained, optimizing the system with the emissions savings of greenhouse gases spread into the atmosphere, and in the reduction of the overall cost of final disposal of organic solids waste in sanitary landfill. Based on the economic principle of utility that determines the environmental feasibility and sustainability in the plants of harnessing organic solids waste to the department, organic fertilizers such as compost and humus capture carbon and nitrogen that reduce the tons of CO2
